The 1960s Come Alive on the Silver Screen

Today is the official release of The 1960s on Film, a textbook that I co-authored with Dr. Jim Willis, published by ABC-CLIO in Santa Barbara, CA. I had the esteemed pleasure of writing alongside Jim, a veteran journalist, expert on the 1960s counterculture, and my former professor at Azusa Pacific University.

Figuring into a wider series of Hollywood History volumes, our book closely examines nine films and one TV series that portray the people, events, and issues of the 1960s—ranging from “The Graduate” (1967) all the way to “Hidden Figures” (2016). In each chapter we tackle two main questions: (1) Just how accurate is Hollywood’s version of American history? (2) What do these portrayals of history tell us, not only about the events they depict but also the time in which they were made?

Fact and fiction, entertainment and research, controversy and legacy—The 1960s on Film has it all. Whether a Baby Boomer or Gen Z, you’ll discover a richer tapestry of American life through the pages of this book. Snag a copy today, and if you do, let me know your thoughts!
